Rich
in Civil War and Native American history, Allatoona Lake is located
just 40 minutes north of Atlanta off I-75 and I-575 in the foothills
of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is home to Red Top Mountain State
Park, one of the Georgia’s most popular parks for day use
and overnights.
Allatoona
Lake’s 270 miles of shoreline and 12,000 acres of water make
it the second-smallest of the nine Great Lakes of Georgia. However
small, Allatoona is a treasure that offers year-’round exploration
for history buffs and nature enthusiasts. In addition to camping,
the area offers fine hotels and bed-and-breakfast retreats.
Allatoona Lake is open all year and offers many activities for
recreation and vacationing, from boating and fishing to jet-skiing
and camping. Most campgrounds are open from March through November.
The lake’s busiest season is Memorial Day to Labor Day each
year.
