Situated
on a wooded peninsula, Tugaloo State Park’s cottages and most
campsites offer spectacular views of Lake Hartwell in every direction.
Some cottages even have private boat docks for overnight guests.
Tent campers can choose between the developed campground or primitive
campsites located a short walk from the parking area. Fishing is
excellent year-round, and large-mouth bass are plentiful. During
summer, the lake is a popular destination for swimming, water skiing,
sailing and boating. Both the Crow Tree and Muscadine nature trails
wind through oak, walnut, mulberry and cherry trees. Swimming,
boating, water skiing and fishing at Lake Hartwell are prime reasons
to visit Hart State Park. Large mouth bass, hybrid bass, striper,
black crappie, bream, rainbow trout and wall-eyed pike can be found
in the sparkling waters. The park’s boat ramps and docks offer
easy access to all water sports. A swimming beach and numerous picnic
tables are also provided. Cottages and most campsites are located
on the scenic lakeshore. In
addition, the nearby towns of Lavonia, Hartwell and Toccoa offer
shopping, dining and lodging options. For golf, choose Cateechee,
Currahee Club and the Pines, each offering challenging play. The
area, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, has beautiful
hiking trails, babbling brooks and waterfalls. Other points of interest
include the Ty Cobb Museum, Cromer’s Mill Covered Bridge and
Travelers Rest State Historic Site. Other points of interest include
scenic Toccoa Falls, Currahee Mountain and the Stephens County Historical
Society.
