Catch
the big one you'll be talking about for years at the Great Lakes of
Georgia. Serious anglers pick these lakes for tournaments or pleasure
fishing. Southwest Georgia's Lake Seminole is one of the nation's
top bass fishing lakes. The cypress ponds and lime sinks make the
perfect habitat for fish. Striper fishermen flock to Lake Lanier north
of Atlanta for some of the state's largest catches, including a 46-pounder
in the 1980s. It's not unusual for an angler to catch a 30- to 40-pound
striper at Lake Lanier.
The meandering shorelines with creeks and inlets offer great fishing.
Many of the deeper lakes have cool waters just right for growing
big bass. With its multitude of rare and endangered plant species,
the Hartwell Lake is a fishing haven, with largemouth and hybrid
bass, black crappie, rainbow trout, bream and walleyed pike.
Fishing guides offer trips all year long. The areas around each
lake have bait and tackle shops and a wealth of local knowledge
about the best places to fish, the right time of day and what's
running. It's all here at the Great Lakes of Georgia to make your
fishing-trip fish stories come true.
