Fishing
guides and bait shops dot the shoreline and provide expert advice
about catching that big fish or exploring nature. Camping and cabins
offer shoreline getaways. Boaters can navigate the channels to discover
wildlife and fine fishing locations. Regional and national bass
tournaments are frequently held at Lake Seminole.
Seminole State Park offers cabins, picnic areas, boat ramps, paddleboat
and canoe rentals and 2.2 miles of nature trails for hiking. The
park, open all year, also has miniature golf and is frequently the
site of family reunions.
During the Colonial period, the fortification at Fort Scott was
the Southwest corner of the United States. The fort no longer exists
because of the creation of Lake Seminole; it’s located on
the bottom of the lake.
One of the earliest powerhouses in the state, originally operated
by Bainbridge Power and Light, is located on the Spring Creek arm
of the lake. It is now abandoned
Nearby towns of Donalsonville and Bainbridge provide lodging, restaurant,
antiques, shopping and family events throughout the year.
Bainbridge hosts outdoor concerts and many festivals during the
year including Riverside Artsfest: A Celebration of Arts in March
and the Bainbridge Bikefest in September. During the warmer months,
Bainbridge’s Earl May Boat Basin on the Flint River is the
site of the River Music Concert Series. The Candlelight Christmas
Walk on the first Thursday in December tours local historic homes
with music at every stop. It ends up in the newly renovated downtown
square. The historic Bon Air Hotel was recently restored to its
original splendor.
Donalsonville is steeped in history and its downtown offers shopping,
antiquing and more at its recently renovated downtown and historic
district. Its 550 acres include 48 buildings and seven structures.
Donalsonville is the site of the annual PRAC Rodeo in April and
the Harvest Festival on the third weekend in October.
